The Italian CAF demonstration took place the 28th of November 2006 at the UNESCO Villa Adriana site near Rome (Tivoli) with the participation of institutions, CUSPIS partners, MIBAC and the delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The demonstration was successful and most of the CAF functionalities were demonstrated on-site. |
Here is a short summary of the demonstration:
- An introductory session with key notes of NEXT, ARCUS and Institutions (incl. representatives of Major of Rome, Director of Villa Adriana) took place in the morning.
- The CUSPIS system deployment was based on a SCC on-site (two machines) and three User Terminals (Tablet and Ultramobile) equipped with EGNOS receiver and Communication devices.. The WiFi coverage was extended to the entrance and the main starting point of the visits (Plastico) – Cellular coverage (GPRS and UMTS) was used in the field of demonstration. A special equipped terminal (PDA) was used to chek-in the RFID electronic tickets and for the geo-time authentication features in specific assets.
- The visits were organised in three groups (devoted to specific thematic routes within the site). All visits are followed by a CUSPIS user terminal, an expert guide and a set of aggregated people.
- During visits most of the functionalities of the CUSPIS CAF were demonstrated (incl. guided visits with guidance, POI view functionalities incl. proximity and discovery, multimedia information view, mapping facilities with tracking, 3D HMI for reconstruction and site immersion, 2D HMI with messaging capabilities, emergency service, etc.)
- The SCC was able to show event monitoring, messaging, routing, tracking, tracing and emergency services facilities. Ticketing was also demonstrated at entrance. A CUSPIS portal with information and pictures about Villa Adriana was also shown.

The Italian CAM demonstrator took place on the 31st of january with a secure transportation from the Scuderie del Quirinale Exhibition in Rome to the Villa Adriana Museum. |
The system is composed of several parts:
- The command and control centre (SCC) devoted to the operation management and installed in the NEXT facilities.
- A car equipped with a crave with the cultural asset and with the terminals needed for the transportation process and the communication with the SCC
- ABU (Asset Board Unit) devoted to the monitoring of the transported cultural asset (equipped with a wifi communication, GPS/EGNOS receiver, Sensors and real time monitoring). The asset is identified and tracked by the use of an RFID tag.
- MCU (Mobile Control Unit) devoted to the manage the operations for th responsible of the transport (this terminal is equipped wit GPRS/UMTS/Satellite communication, GPS/EGNOS receiver, WiFi and with functionalities of mapping, communication, alert and asset monitoring).
- MIU – Mobile Identification Unit devoted to the RFID identification of the cultural asset.
A web portal (CUSPIS Process Portal) for the management of the transportation process is also used for the process.
